The hunt for LaMarcus Aldridge was story of the offseason. Even during the season we were hearing rumours of certain teams, who was going for him and trying to get a pulse on what LaMarcus was thinking. But what we knew for sure was that he was out of Portland.
And just like that, he went to the San Antonio Spurs. But after weeks of travelling and getting courted by several teams, LaMarcus was mentally drained by it all.
“I don’t like change,” Aldridge said. “That’s been a little bit difficult for me, trying to get used to a new city. I got lost like twice yesterday. That’s not fun.”
“In the end, it should be great for me. Right now, it’s been tough because everything is so new.”
Aldridge, who turned 30 on July 19, has spent most of the summer decompressing from a stressful free agency chase that left him – in his own words – “mentally drained.”
I think this is one of those cases where you don’t know how it feels unless you’re in that situation yourself. Because all we see is Aldridge chilling with coaches and players for a day, having dinners and such. Stressful? Sure, it must’ve been so stressful not to pick up the check.
But I guess when you’re 30 and you are trying to make a decision that will shape your legacy, it must be mentally draining of sorts.
