The San Antonio Spurs are low key getting the job done. They’re 16-4, 4 games behind Golden State and 3.5 games ahead of 3rd seed Oklahoma City Thunder. It seems at this point they’re just waiting for the Warriors to lose steam and come back down to earth.
LaMarcus Aldridge was average at the start of the season and whether you expected that or not, it was clear that Aldridge was just getting comfortable. Now, he’s comfortable and the Spurs are all good. He credits, guess who, Tim Duncan for sticking with LaMarcus.
“[Tim Duncan] kept staying in my ear, and I wouldn’t smile,” Aldridge explained. “So he was getting frustrated with me. I made a shot. I gave him a smile, and that’s when he got kind of hype. But he’s been nothing but positive for me this whole process. He’s always been in my ear trying to tell me to be myself, be positive and it’s gonna come; just be patient. So tonight, it was evident in the game that he tried to keep me positive. Then when things turned, I think he was more happy that I started playing better than I was.”
Now I know LaMarcus Aldridge doesn’t want the “Handing the keys to the next generation” label put on him but it’s clear that’s what is happening here. It’s just too perfect.
