Lamar Odom To Begin Training At Knicks Facility This Week
The New York Knicks signed Lamar Odom with one game left in the regular season, and Odom is set to begin his comeback process at the Knicks facilities this week. Odom’s prior relationship with Knicks president of basketball operations Phil Jackson was the underlying factor in giving him a chance to rehabilitate his career in New York. Alleged drug issues kept Odom from playing in the NBA last year, though he did spend a short time playing in Spain before suffering an injury. Here were Phil Jackson’s comments on Odom:
He’s coming to town this week. We know he’s a really good basketball player. He wants to put himself back together, and he has a chance to do that by having the whole summer to work at it and getting himself back in basketball condition to play. He told me that’s what he wants to do. Having a relationship with him. It’s a pretty good risk-reward situation for us.
Jackson and Odom won two titles together with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010. Odom won the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2011. His contract with the Knicks is non-guaranteed.
