Ty Lawson got his happy ending. After an unkind 2015 filled with arrests and off the court issues, Lawson was dealt to the Houston Rockets on Sunday night. The 5’11” guard said he was ecstatic about the move and is excited to get a fresh start in Houston. Not that many teams were in the running for the services of Lawson because wherever he went, he was going to bring all his baggage with him. Also most teams have their franchise point guard already on their roster.
Houston was in dire need of a franchise point guard and they just got one if Lawson can keep his head on straight. There was one other team connected to Lawson, the Los Angeles Lakers. Following from Zach Lowe of Grantland:
Look around the league: Who exactly needs a starting point guard and cares enough about winning over the next two seasons to deal with Lawson? The Lakers were the only other team to express interest, but they can’t offer a first-round pick until 2020 at the earliest — and may not have even put a future first-rounder on the table, per league sources.
Who knows what the Lakers offered given the fact that they can’t even offer a first round pick until 2020. Truthfully, Denver saved Los Angeles for their own stupidity yet again. The addition of Lawson would’ve been the last thing the Lakers need right now. The off-court problems would make their image worse than it already is. Plus adding Lawson would’ve really cut into the minutes and touches of young guards D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson. We’ll see is Lawson can come out of his upcoming 30 day alcohol rehab a new man.
