So like every scandal or event, we come to the aftermath. In this case it’s the aftermath of D’Angelo Russell breaking the “Bro Code” on Nick Young. We all know what happened with the video and what the content had in said video.
We also know that D’Angelo feels bad as he said before their game against the Miami Heat and after the game against the Heat. D’Angelo has been contrite and knows he screwed up. But that won’t stop the current Laker atmosphere from being awkward.
The Lakers tried to trade away Nick Young before the deadline but couldn’t get anything going, with all this in the frame, the Lakers will most likely try again in the offseason.
Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson acknowledged it was a bit strained when Russell and Young were in the locker room at the same time. Forward Julius Randle said that things had been a “little awkward.”
The Lakers tried to trade Young, 30, each of the last two seasons as his production dropped. There were no takers. They will likely try to find a home for him again this off-season, which won’t be easy with a player who didn’t even get off the bench in eight games last month.
“He’s been a little bit more, I wouldn’t say standoffish, but he’s been probably a whole lot quieter than Nick normally is,” Scott said.
I would hate to be anywhere near that team, the tension must be unbearable for everyone, not just D’Angelo and Young. I mean, do you take sides? Do you take sides subconsciously even though you’re trying to stay neutral?
It’s awkward just trying to put myself in any of their shoes. The quicker Young is gone the better. I think if he doesn’t get traded he should ask to leave anyway. Take a break, focus on your relationship.
