Out of all the game the Los Angeles Lakers have played in this season only Kobe Bryant has hit the 30-point scoring threshold. Sadly Bryant hasn’t played since late January thanks to season ended surgery so the Lakers have missed that scoring presence severely. Well, the Lakers have this rookie from Missouri (Mid 2nd round pick) named Jordan Clarkson. He was at one point projected to be a 1st round pick but fell to the 2nd after his play started to slip.
Clarkson dropped 30 points and seven assists last night in a 117-127 loss against Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
He even had a highlight reel dunk, which included him splitting a Dion Waiter and Steven Adams double team then beating Enes Kanter to the rim for the two-handed slam.
Clarkson has been one of the few bright spots for the Lakers this season. They’ve lost five players so far to season ending injuries and possibly a sixth. He’s averaged 14.6 point 4.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists this month and just made history with Jeremy Lin last night against OKC. Steve Nash has spent 1-on-1 time with Clarkson this season and if you’ve watched him play since Bryant went down, his game is improving in all aspects especially decision making.
With all the promise that this young man has shown, if the Lakers don’t bring him back fans might as well give up on the front office.
By the way, if your looking to see Clarkson in action he has a game tonight vs the depleted Minnesota Timberwolves.
