A few years ago, under a different collective bargaining agreement, NBA teams would be lining up to acquire the $9.7 million dollar contract of now hurt, Los Angeles Lakers point guard, Steve Nash.

Now under the new CBA, the contract of Steve Nash is viewed as not valuable at all. In the old days, a contract like that makes it so much easier for the team to just simply salary dump or just cut the players. Now with new provisions, including the amnesty clause (which the Lakers have already used on Carlos Boozer) makes it so hard to get rid of a bad contract.
Marc Stein Of ESPN.com reported the following.
As ESPN.com reported last month when Nash was ruled out for the 2014-15 season because of recurring nerve issues with his back, Lakers officials are planning to explore the trade market for potential deals between now and the February trade deadline with Nash’s $9.7 million expiring contract.
Apparently, there’s a market for a recently, always injured point guard who hasn’t played at least 60 games since 2011-12. The Lakers are also looking to use the disabled players exception due to Nash’s season ending injury and get some sort of help.
This story is jsut going on and on longer than it should. Throw the Lakers a bone Steve, retire and pack it up. I’m not sure any NBA team, outside of the Phoenix Suns or Dallas Mavericks, that would sign him. The only reason those 2 teams would sign him though is to simply have him retire in one of those jerseys respectively.
