When the Los Angeles Lakers drafted D’Angelo Russell, I like you was saying “good choice”. I mean he was legit coming out of Ohio State. He could make any pass, had great quickness, all the hallmarks of a great point guard.
But compared to some of the players in his class, he hasn’t been quite as good. Several Rookies including Jahlil Okafor and Kristaps Porzingis have been substantially better than D’Angelo. But, regardless of performance, the Lakers are not regretting their pick.
“Absolutely,” Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak told Los Angeles News Group. “We’re very happy. He’s going to be a really good player.“
Kobe Bryant has been very vocal in mentoring D’Angelo and he knows how today’s media have the ability to roast a player in moments, Jahlil Okafor a case in point.
“It’s tough in this day and age where everybody has a camera phone. They pick up on mistakes a lot more than they did in the past,” Bryant said. “It’s important for him to learn those things and stay focused on the game.“
That’s the unfortunate side of today’s game. Having idiots on Twitter spam you with hate when they really don’t know nothing.
It’s something D’Angelo has to deal with. But on the other hand. He’s not the only one dealing with it. Besides. Dating Kendall Jenner doesn’t help.
