Jimmy Butler has been on a year-long surge that has culminated in a Most Improved Player award. Well deserved by the way. He is, in my opinion, the most valuable player for the Chicago Bulls. People say that Derrick Rose IS Chicago but let’s be honest. The Bulls have done alright without Rose, Butler does way more than Rose does. He scores, he rebounds, he’s one of the best two-way players in the game. What I am trying to say is, the Chicago Bulls should just give Butler a blank check when his contract is up.
The Los Angeles Lakers are rebuilding, there has been word that they’ll only get Rondo on discount. But now according to RealGM, they’re targeting Jimmy Butler.
Outside of Chicago, teams are already preparing possible maximum-salary offer sheets for Butler in free agency, including the Los Angeles Lakers as one of several expected suitors, league sources told RealGM. Even Butler’s college area connection, the Milwaukee Bucks, will have cap space in July. Around the league, there’s a question: How will Chicago handle the inevitable max out of a star player not named Rose?
Chicago can’t afford to lose Butler, but the Lakers would be so tempting. A max contract and the keys to the franchise once Kobe leaves?! Where’s the pen and where do I sign?
