Lakers, Other Teams Considering Shawn Marion
Dallas Mavericks forward and 15-year veteran Shawn Marion is a veteran free agent who could end up with one of several teams next season. According to Dwain Price of Fort-Worth Star Telegram, if Marion can’t get the mid-level exception from the Spurs or Rockets, he may take the $2.73 million room exception from the Mavericks, Bulls, Bobcats, or the Los Angeles Lakers.
As a veteran forward with still plenty to contribute on and off the floor, Marion could be of use to any of these teams. With Chandler Parsons arriving in Dallas it seems likely he’ll land elsewhere.
Marion’s intangibles would be beneficial for Gregg Popovich and the Spurs, who know how to utilize their veterans better than anyone. The Rockets could use Marion’s presence as a defender and a leader. He could add to the Bulls’ growing depth and make the Bobcats even more interesting. The Lakers, who probably have enough veterans lingering, could also use Marion to round out their roster, which doesn’t feature any presences at small forward.
In terms of adding to a realistic championship effort, the Mavericks, Spurs, and Bulls seem the best options.
Marion will be helping one of these teams next season.
