Thomas preferred to wear no. 3, but wing Corey Brewer was wearing it. Now, however, Brewer has been bought out by the team and signed by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
With Brewer gone, Thomas is free to wear no. 3, and he will. Three is the number Thomas donned for the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers. He wore no. 4 for the Boston Celtics, presumably because no. 3 was retired for Dennis Johnson. During his time with the Sacramento Kings, Thomas wore no. 22.
Thomas’ favorite number is actually 11, the number he wore in high school. Thomas has said in the past that he couldn’t wear that number in Boston, although it’s unclear why; the number isn’t retired and none of his teammates wore it. Now, Kyrie Irving wears it.
After a highly disappointing stint in Cleveland, Isaiah Thomas has been significantly better for the Lakers, averaging 16.1 points and 5.5 assists in 25 minutes per game since the trade. His efficiency is nowhere near what it was in his All-NBA-season in Boston, but it is better than it was in Cleveland.
