Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak Says Kobe Bryant Won’t Be Consulted In Coaching Search
The Los Angeles Lakers are in pursuit of their next head coach after Mike D’Antoni’s resignation, and plenty of names continue to surface. As the process ensues, general manager Mitch Kupchak answered questions he’s been asked plenty of times before about Lakers star Kobe Bryant’s potential involvement in the search for a new head coach,
From time to time we ask his advice. He really won’t weigh in on something like this. I’m not even sure that we’ll talk to him prior to interviews. But from time to time, he is in our facility, I’ll go downstairs and I’ll talk to him about a bunch of different things.
These comments from Kupchak are a bit foggy. He did admit that they ask for Kobe’s advice from time to time. Clearly he is at least part of the conversation, just not given as much authoritative say as most would think on who will coach him in his final years. Bryant is currently under his two-year, $48.5-million contract with the Lakers.
