It is the worst-kept secret in the world that the Los Angeles Lakers have a strong desire to sign Paul George. The team was even slapped with tampering for it. While the path to each other is wide-open and seemingly inevitable, that does not mean chivalry is forgotten. The Lakers plan of attack for wooing George allegedly leaked to the public, with Sports Illusrated obtaining what appears to be a script for a bigger production.
The script obtained, which appears to be some sort of voiceover framework, takes a very emotional route. The pitch entitled “Two Dreams” makes hints about who the pitch is for. It reads as:
“When you were just a kid”
“In your room
Dreaming from Palmdale”
“We were dreaming too.”
“While you dreamt, we built – built for your arrival”
“And while we dreamt, you built too
Becoming one of the world’s greatest.”
“Life’s most powerful dream are the one we realize ourselves.”
“The ones that turn us into legends.
That kid from Palmdale always knew it
Now the world will, too”
The 28-year-old George is from Palmdale, California. He also played basketball collegiately at Fresno State. George even strongly hinted to the Indiana Pacers a few years back that he wants to sign with the Lakers. Los Angeles has been linked to every big free agent, but George in particular seems like the most plausible possibly given his comments and background. Ideally the Lakers want to pair George with LeBron James, a similar fantasy to seemingly every other team in the league.
Free agency begins July 1st and, given the big names who could be on the move, things will be very interesting.
