The Los Angeles Lakers are poised to be one of the busiest teams this off-season and Ed Davis could be apart of that busy off-season.
Ed Davis reportedly is opting out of his Lakers contract, which is not a surprise to anyone.
Davis is seeking $7-$10 million per year from the Lakers who have plenty of cap space to work with.
The Lakers will need to spend wisely though if they want to get the most out of the final years of Kobe Bryant, and build for the future. Ed Davis has averaged 7 points and 8 rebounds in his 4 year career.
Davis was supposed to be Chris Bosh’s replacement when Bosh left for Miami, which never panned out for Toronto or Davis.
Ed Davis more than likely won’t get the $7-$10 million he will fall short of on the open market, but he will end up with the Lakers once again he played a nice role for the team especially after the injury to Julius Randle.
The Lakers may be reluctant to give Davis that kind of money in hopes of landing star power to go alongside Kobe Bryant.
If the Lakers land DeMarcus Cousins sometime within the next 24 hours they might want to follow that up with another big move to go along with it.
A return to the Lakers may be Davis’ best case scenario as he’s comfortable with head coach Byron Scott, but the Lakers will be moving forward in Julius Randle’s development.
Davis will be a suitable back up which he has proven he can do, but at what cost?
