Lakers Deny They Are Interested In Doc Rivers
Being that the Los Angeles Lakers have still yet to hire a head coach, and being that Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers reportedly remains adamant about his stance on quitting his job if Donald Sterling is still the owner, it’s understandable (and actually a bit late) for theories to surface about the Lakers possibly holding out to land Rivers. However, as reported by Mark Medina from the L.A. Daily News, Laker sources “strongly disputed” that notion.
Byron Scott is understood to be the current frontrunner for the Lakers’ head coaching vacancy since Mike D’Antoni resigned from the position in April.
I’m shocked it took this long for someone to point this out. From my understanding, it was ESPN analyst Jalen Rose who spurred the rumor via Twitter:
Smart for the Lakers to hold out on hiring a HC to see if Doc Rivers can shake loose from the Clippers. #staytuned
— Jalen Rose (@JalenRose) July 23, 2014
Now, Rose tweets as if the intent is in fact there, but the Lakers are denying any such schemes. Laker fans should hope they’re lying.
