The Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers are both going to be able to stay home for Christmas this year. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t be playing basketball. The Lakers and Clippers are set to face off against each other on Christmas Day. Following from Mike Bresnahan of the LA Times:
The Lakers will apparently be home for Christmas. So will the Clippers.
The teams are tentatively scheduled to play each other Dec. 25 in a designated Lakers home game at Staples Center, The Times has learned.
The Lakers and Clippers met on Christmas one other time, in 1991, with the Lakers winning, 85-75. The NBA will finalize the league’s entire schedule next week.
NBA basketball on Christmas Day is always iconic. We already have a couple of great match-ups slated for December 25th, including a finals rematch between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Lakers have absolutely dominated the battle for Los Angeles in the past but the tides have drastically turned in the last few years. The Clips hold an 11-1 record against the Lakers in the past three years. One of those victories was a 142-94 victory which ended up being the most one sided loss in Lakers franchise history. The expectations for both teams are very different next year. For the Clippers it’s title or bust while die hard purple and gold fans just want to put out a respectable team that might fight for the last playoff seed in the Western Conference. We’ll see who really has Tinseltown supremacy come Christmas Day.
