After fracturing his kneecap during the Finals last season, Kyrie Irving seems to see a comeback date coming up. Reports at one point said Kyrie will return in January, even though the Cleveland Cavaliers said he will return well before then. According to a recent report from ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Kyrie said that he has a return date in his head.
“There’s light at the end of the tunnel. In terms of a date, I do have one in my head, but obviously, I’m not going to share it for a little bit.”
This is very good news for Kyrie and the Cavaliers. He sounds like he is going to return sometime soon. Maybe sometime in the next few weeks? Who knows. Kyrie won’t give us the date, because he still wants us to speculate on when he will come back (savage).
“I think all the rumors that everyone said in terms of [a] January [return] or whatever, I’ll let them stay out there. But for me, I’m just trying to take it one day at a time, and I’m just continuing the process.”
Right now, it is best for Kyrie not to rush. It would be terrible if he rushed and tried to do too much too soon, and he ended up with another setback. That would be not be fun for him or his team. He has not been cleared for contact yet, but he is allowed to work out and do single man drills, which is a good sign.
“The biggest thing now is just not trying to overdo it. Just trying to maintain the same consistency and get back into game shape. I think that’s the biggest thing. I haven’t been cleared for contact yet, but there’s nothing stopping me right now from fully sprinting and doing basketball game things. There’s no drills that I’m not able to do right now in terms of my own workouts that’s limiting me. It’s just about getting stronger in the weight room, strengthening my leg up again and getting back into game shape.”
Until Kyrie is finally ready to return, he just needs to be a good cheerleader for his teammates. He needs to support them. Starting in his place has been Mo Williams and Matthew Dellavedova, who have averaged 22.6 PPG, 11 APG, 5.6 RPG, and 1.5 SPG combined replacing Kyrie. At the moment, the Cavs are sitting pretty at 4-1, but with the addition of Kyrie, they would be an even scarier team than what they already are.
