Well this news should bring joy to Kyrie Irving and Cavaliers fans all over the world. Someone with insider knowledge on the Cavs had some juicy information for Dave McMenamin of ESPN, on Saturday’s shoot around:
“Kyrie Irving played a set of modified 1-on-1 games against LeBron James after the Cleveland Cavaliers’ shootaround Saturday and “destroyed him,” a team source told ESPN.com.
They weren’t true games of 1-on-1 in the sense that only one dribble was allowed per possession, thus rendering James’ significant size advantage moot as he couldn’t simply back Irving down with his dribble and post him up. Games finished with the first player to score three baskets.
Getting hot from the outside with his shot helped Irving succeed, per the source. To be fair, James ultimately evened the set of games 2-2 before the pair finished for the afternoon, but Irving was, apparently, in the zone.”
Kyrie Irving has been out of NBA action since suffering a fractured knee in game 1 of the 2015 NBA Finals. I wouldn’t say his team desperately needs him, but having Kyrie Irving back would help out LeBron James and Kevin Love considerably. Mo Williams has been a solid fill-in in Irving’s absence thus far, but with him now injured the Cavs would love to get their 2011 #1 pick back, who also happens to be one of the top 5 points guard in today’s NBA.
Kyrie Irving was originally expected to make his return sometime before January, but with this information and him recently being cleared for weight bearing activities, we might see him in late December if we’re lucky.
