Kyrie Irving recorded 21 points, 6 assists, 5 steals and 2 rebounds in the Boston Celtics loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night. The Blazers 100-94 win put the Celtics at 7-6 to start the season.
After the loss, Kyrie talked to the media about what`s happening with the Celtics slow start this season. He stated that sometimes they are just playing desperate and it`s something they need to fix.
Irving also said that with the type of groups and players they have on the court, they outmatch every team and he thinks they need more discipline and experience. In the end, he closed with “Right now it would be nice if we had someone that was a 15-year vet or a 14-year vet that helps us race along the season and understand it is a long marathon rather than a full sprint.”
Right now, Boston has Al Horford with 12 seasons of experience, Gordon Hayward with nine, Kyrie and Marcus Morris have eight and Baynes has seven. They don’t have that grizzled, been through it all type of guy. Not yet at least.
There are also rumors that Kyrie Irving could be using this quote to hint towards acquiring Carmelo Anthony. Houston is reportedly heavily considering moving on from Anthony, a player in his 16th year in the NBA. Anthony is is averaging 13.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 0.5 assists on 29.4 minutes per game this season.
