17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide after he shot and killed two demonstrators in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Rittenhouse was arrested and taken into custody in Antioch, Illinois, 17 miles away from Kenosha.
“Last night a 17-year-old individual from Antioch, Ill., was involved in the use of firearms to resolve whatever conflict was in place,” Kenosha Police Chief Daniel Miskinis said Wednesday afternoon.
“The result of it was two people are dead.”
Demonstrators gathered in Wisconsin to protest the shooting of Kenosha area resident, Jacob Blake. Police officers were caught on camera shooting the unarmed man as he got into his car with his kids. Blake was unarmed at the time of the shooting and had just attempted to break up a fight nearby.
Rittenhouse shot into a crowd of citizens who were protesting the shooting. As a result, a 26-year-old and a 36-year-old resident were killed. A third person was shot but is expected to survive.

During Wednesday’s press briefing, Miskinis came under fire for referencing the city’s 7 p.m. curfew as a factor in the shooting.
“The curfew is in place to protect,” he said.
“Had persons not been out in violation of that, perhaps the situation that unfolded would not have happened.”
“It’s not the curfew. It’s the armed white supremacists,” Shannon Watts of Moms Demand tweeted.
The curfew in the Wisconsin town will continue for the remainder of the week.
