Kyle Lowry was a man who had a very inconsistent 2016 NBA Playoffs. The Toronto Raptors first series against the Indiana Pacers, Lowry only had one game where he scored more than 20 points, following that up against the Miami Heat, Lowry posted four game scoring over 25 points but against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, he would need to put up his best output yet.
The tough point guard out of the Philadelphia area struggled to get anything going in the first two games agains the Cavaliers, scoring 18 points in the two games combined but he bounced back in a good way. Over the final four games of the series, Lowry averaged 25.7 points per game and in the final game of the Raptors season he stepped up, scoring 35 points, trying to will his team against the juggernaut known as LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Toronto, like many other teams before them, fell victim to the Cavs Eastern Conference domination and people can only marvel in the dominance from LeBron James in particular.
Kyle Lowry was one of those people who found themselves being a fan of ‘The King’ as he makes his sixth straight NBA Finals appearance, the first non-Boston Celtic to do so. Lowry had one message for LeBron and he didn’t mince words about it either.
Following from Mike Mazzeo of ESPN.
“And I said to LeBron, ‘You a bad motherf’er,’ and I told him to go win it all. I’ve always had mutual respect for LeBron. We have a good relationship, and like I said I just appreciate all the effort and hard work he puts in and just that competitive nature of two competitive athletes going at it. I’m happy for him because he gets another opportunity [in the NBA finals], but I’m disappointed that we’re not having that opportunity.”
“That’s what he does,” Lowry said. “He’s LeBron James, a top-five player in the history of the NBA once he retires.”
Lowry recognizes LeBron’s greatness and his reign over the Eastern Conference for the past decade has not been matched by anyone. Name any legend in the past 40 years, Magic, Bird, Kareem, Jordan, Duncan, and none of them have achieved this level of greatness from LeBron James.
And no, James Jones isn’t a part of this six straight NBA Finals greatness tour. He missed the finals in 2011 and he also has a career 5 points per game average so yes, we can skip out on him for this debate.
