Oh man if this isn’t the definition of “nail in the coffin” I don’t know what is. First DeMarre Carroll gets injured, Al Horford is banged up and now Kyle Korver is officially out for the rest of the Playoffs. Big blow for the Hawks.
Korver suffered the injury in the third quarter when Matthew Dellavedova dove for a loose ball and rolled into Korver’s leg. Korver immediately went back to the locker room under his own power and did not return in the Hawks’ 94-82 loss.
Korver has struggled in the playoffs, averaging 11 points on 39 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent from behind the arc. Defenses have honed in on him all playoffs and Korver’s open looks have been infrequent, but his defense-bending shooting is still crucial to the way the Hawks operate on offense. Without him, the Hawks will play more Kent Bazemore and Shelvin Mack, neither of which have a shooting touch like Korver’s.
Korver has been non-existent ever since the Playoffs. Only 36% from behind the arc? His regular season dominance is a distant memory and at this rate, so is the Atlanta Hawks’. They’re down 2-0 to a Cleveland Cavaliers team that is brimming with confidence now that they’re back home. The ATL better find offense somewhere otherwise the Cavs will be getting the brooms out.
