One of the elite marksmen not only today but that the NBA has ever seen, Kyle Korver continues his work today as a key member of the championship contending Cleveland Cavaliers. With extra drama still surrounding J.R. Smith, Korver has seen a bigger role for himself that could continue on as the playoffs approach.
However, Korver will be spending some time away from the team after the unfortunate passing of his younger brother Kirk Korver. The Cavs announced that Korver would be absent for now via their Twitter account.
We are very sad to share that Cavaliers guard Kyle Korver’s brother, Kirk, passed away today. Kyle has been excused from the team to be with his family. We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt best to Kyle and his entire family as they go through this very difficult time.

Of course a huge tragedy for one of the more professional NBA players, prayers go out to Kyle Korver and his family and friends during this testing time.
On the court, Korver had recently seen his role expand due to the benching of J.R. Smith and the injury Rodney Hood was battling through. Korver was labeled as the starting shooting guard with Hood sidelined due to his back injury and had turned in 12, 22, 19, and 12 points in his last four outing respectively.
With a tragedy of this magnitude, the Cavs will likely allow Korver as much time as he needs to mourn the family’s loss before thinking about a return and rightfully so.
