As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Kumail Nanjiani will star opposite Dave Bautista in Stuber, an action comedy from Fox. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are producing the film.
Michael Dowse, known for his work directing the hockey film Goon, is directing the film.
Nanjiani will play a mild-mannered Uber driver named Stu that picks up a grizzled cop (Bautista) who is hot on the trail of a brutal killer. The driver finds himself thrust into a harrowing ordeal where he has to keep his wits, his life and his five-star rating.
Tripper Clancy wrote the script while Jake Wagner and Nick Thomas are executive producing. Jeremy Kramer will be overseeing the project for the studio.
Nanjiani is one of the stars of the acclaimed comedy series Silicon Valley, returning later this month. His last big-screen outing was The Big Sick, which he starred in and co-wrote with his wife Emily V. Gordon. The film was a surprise hit as it gained almost universal acclaim and an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
While the major crew and cast announcement have been made, a release date has yet to be announced.
