New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis suffered a scary-looking ankle injury in the first quarter of their Wednesday night contest against the Miami Heat. The ‘unicorn’ exited after Heat wingman Justise Winslow stepped on his foot as the two chased a loose ball. Porzingis’ X-rays back negative and he was eligible to return to the game but the team did not put him back in.
The Knicks didn’t need Porzingis during their wire-to-wire 115-86 win over Miami. But the star big man hopes to return for their next game against the Orlando Magic on Sunday citing his ‘lizard’ healing abilities.
“I hope it’s next game. I hope I can … they call me ‘the lizard’ because I recover so quickly from things. So hopefully it’s nothing too big. I’m going to get treatment, stay on top of this, and hopefully the lizard can be ready for Sunday.”
Add another nickname to the Knicks star seven-footer. The ‘lizard’ now joins the ‘unicorn’ and ‘porzingod’ as go-to names for Porzingis.
An MRI today revealed no strucural damage to his ankle, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Ian Begley of ESPN.
MRI results negative on Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis’ right ankle today, league sources tell @IanBegley and me. No damage. Porzingis will be day-to-day.
