This year’s Olympics has presented American with new stars, but it also crowned Michael Phelps as one of the greatest American Olympians of all-time.
But when Michael Phelps was a child, he had a swimming rival. And that rival was Kris Humphries.
Humphries beat Phelps six times as a 10-year-old.

Humphries was perhaps the best young swimmer in America but he decided to pursue the NBA, he explained why to People Magazine.
“I was so good at a young age that I got a little burnt out,” Humphries says. “I also grew up in the Michael Jordan era … for me, I watched [basketball] and saw it as a challenge. It’s hard to stay focused on something when you have a ton of success at a young age, so I picked up basketball a little later and rolled with that.”
This is a cool story but it begs the question, did Kris Humphries make the right choice? Phelps is way more popular and a more accomplished athlete than Humphries. But Humphries has Phelps beat at the bank. Which means Humphries made the right choice in my book.
