This is by no means a shocking statement; most would be inclined to agree with Dunn. His primary competition for title of best point guard in the draft is Jamal Murray, who is more polished a scorer than Dunn. That isn’t to say that Dunn isn’t a good scorer: He averaged 16.4 points per game while shooting 44.8% from the field and 37.2% from three-point range. Those are good numbers, and Dunn is also an excellent playmaker(6.2 assists per game) and a superb defender(2.5 steals per game).
As stated, Murray’s the better scorer: 20 points per game on .454/.408/.783 splits. Side note: Murray attempted 7.7 threes a game. Good lord.
Murray’s more of a scoring guard, though. He could end up being a two in the NBA. It’s hard to say, but he’s not much of a playmaker: Murray averaged just 2.2 assists per game, with 2.3 turnovers his freshman year at Kentucky.
Dunn and Murray are the top point guards(if Murray is in fact a point guard) in this draft. In DraftExpress’ latest mock, Dunn is projected to go fourth to the Suns, and Murray sixth to the Pelicans.
Other top point guard prospects include Demetrius Jackson, Wade Baldwin, and Tyler Ulis.
