With the salary cap rising, a lot of deal are including player options so they can opt out in hopes of earning a more sizeable contract. Koufos can opt out of his deal after 3 years to search for a deal that fits with the new salary cap as it adjusts to new television deals.

With all of the rumors surroundingDeMarcus Cousins and his future in Sacramento,Koufos provides an option in case a move has to be made. Even though talks have quieted down over the past few days, a move could be made if something interesting happens. The Kings now have a reliable safety blanket for if George Karl gets his way.
