Emmanuel Omogbo recently went through one of the most tragic stories in the NBA world. The Colorado State junior lost his family (both parents as well as a twin niece and nephew) to a house fire in Maryland last week.
Since then, Omogbo has returned to the court, attempting to contribute to his team (with success) while still undoubtedly feeling the effects of the tragedy. Omogbo has received encouragement from fans, teammates, and even others involved in the college basketball world.
Omogbo even received some encouraging words from Kobe Bryant. The Los Angeles Lakers star sent Emmanuel a video in which he expressed his well wishes. Additionally, Bryant spoke to Omogbo’s courage and fortitude in dealing with the situation, calling it an “inspiration.”

Nothing can ease the pain that Omogbo is undoubtedly going through. To lose one’s family, including both parents, in an instant is something that not many can imagine, much less have the misfortune of saying they’ve experienced. But perhaps seeing one of the all-time greats of the basketball fraternity call him an inspiration can give Omogbo a little joy in a dark time. If his post to Twitter is any sign, that may have some truth to it.
Our thoughts are with Emmanuel as he continues to get through this tragedy.
