Remember 2010? LeBron was supposedly done with Cleveland. Kobe Bryant and the Lakers were good. Charlotte and Washington were still trash. 4 years have passed since then and you wouldn’t have guessed that Kobe was genuinely feeling himself after 2010.
But after the Lakers championship we all know what happened after, which makes this text from Kobe to LeBron seem even more crazy.
With a brutal seven-game victory over the Celtics in the bank for Bryant, the 2010 offseason is dominated by LeBron James’ decision to leave Cleveland for Miami.
What matters to Bryant is Phil Jackson agreeing to return to coach the Lakers again in pursuit of a third consecutive NBA title. Bryant sends James a text message. It goes like this:
“Go ahead and get another MVP, if you want. And find the city you want to live in. But we’re going to win the championship. Don’t worry about it.” (Quote and text via SLAMonline)
I wonder what LeBron’s response was to the text? Did he even text back? Or did he wait until he won a title? From wherever you stand you have to find this a little amusing, the smile Kobe must’ve had when he sent this.
