On Wednesday, Kobe Bryant did a Q&A with Chinese microblogging company Weibo, addressing various topics. Here’s a recap of the Q&A(H/T to LakersNation for the translation).
On who the best coach Kobe has ever had is:
Phil Jackson was my best coach so far. The best in the business.
While Kobe had one of the greatest coaches of all time in Phil Jackson, he doesn’t want to follow in Jackson’s steps and try his hand at coaching. When asked whether or not he would want to coach:
No. Coaching isn’t for me. I just have no interest in doing it.
Kobe does want to teach basketball after his career, just not by coaching. He wants to open a basketball school. When asked about it, he responded with:
Absolutely. I enjoy teaching and inspiring and helping others reach their full potential.
Bryant also spoke about his teammates — old and new.
Regarding his favorite teammates ever, Kobe chose two.
Pau Gasol is phenomenal. Derek Fisher is like a brother to me.
As for his new teammates, Kobe is excited for the teams future, saying:
We didn’t get some free agents, but we did great in the draft. We have a good mix and a good balance. It’s obvious that Kobe believes in the Lakers’ current core, as he recently said in a separate interview that he “absolutely” believes that they can make the playoffs this year.
He’s also excited about the acquisition of center Roy Hibbert. Kobe praised Hibbert’s unique skill set.
He has a certain skill set that’s hard to find. He has a great ability to pass the ball. He can score, and he can pass.
That’s an odd assessment of Hibbert. When I think of Hibbert, I think of a big, defensive-minded center. While Hibbert is a solid scorer, he isn’t known for his scoring ability. He also isn’t known for his passing. He’s averaged just 1.4 assists per game for his career. Strange that Kobe would mention his scoring and passing but not his rebounding or defending. Hibbert himself definitely takes more pride in his defense than any other aspect of his game, and wants to play at an All-Star level on the defensive end this season.
Kobe was also asked about his personal life. He already has two daughters, when asked whether or not he plans on having a son, he said:
Haha! Maybe. We’ll see.
