Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant have literally had polar opposites. Tim did four years at College, Kobe didn’t even go to college. Tim is a forward, Kobe is a guard.
The only thing they have in common is that they have rings.
And they both love each others game. The Los Angeles Times covered both of their remarks to each other. They’re both very positive.
“He’s the ultimate competitor. He wants to win and wants to do well,” Duncan said of Bryant. “Seeing him come back from such a devastating injury to where he is now, good for him. It’s good to see him out there. You don’t want to see anybody down.”
“I can’t express to you how much I’m jealous,” Bryant said of Duncan’s career stability. “I’ve been up and down.”
That remains an accomplishment in itself.
Popovich and Duncan point out they have never won consecutive championships. When told of the Spurs’ self-criticism, Bryant interjected, “I’ll take that over being able to do it twice.” Bryant then laughed and said, “I’m not giving up any tips.”
“I want a crack at him,” the 36-year-old Bryant said of the of the 38-year-old Duncan. “I would love to play the Spurs in the playoffs one more time.”
I love it when to greats of the modern game talk about each other. The respect they show for each other just backs up my love for the game.
I never had the luxury of seeing these two play each other in the Playoffs. Short of searching their battles on YouTube of course.
