Kobe Bryant Doesn’t Like The Idea of Tim Duncan Winning 6th Ring Before Him
With the San Antonio Spurs winning their fifth NBA title in franchise history, veteran elites Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant are now tied with five championship rings each. Bryant, a known adamant of soccer, has been spending documented time in Brazil during the 2014 World Cup. While there he reacted to the possibility of Duncan one-upping him in jewelry,
If you ask me if I’m okay with Tim (winning his sixth championship), I’m not. I’m not okay with that.
Instead of taking this as ill-feelings or innate hatred, understand the incessant competitive spirit with which Kobe never fails to express. I’m sure Kobe has a profound respect for Tim Duncan and the Spurs, but we know he won’t openly condone anyone winning championships if he’s not in the picture. It’s also crucial to recognize the significance of championship #6 in NBA pantheons, but particularly for Kobe Bryant, who makes it his life’s mission to chase and emulate the legacy of one Michael Jordan.
It’s still unclear if the Los Angeles Lakers will be able to muster together another reasonable cast for Kobe to work with in order to pursue #6. At this point in time, Duncan’s chances are much better. Bryant is going into the second term of his two-year, $48 million extension with the Lakers, who currently own the no. 7 overall pick in next week’s NBA Draft.
