Odds for the 2016-17 NBA season were recently dropped, courtesy of the Las Vegas Westgate Superbook. The betting odds were submitted just a few days before training camps are set to begin. Over/unders for teams all over the NBA are already being debated and some odds look like solid bets.
The one thing many could see as a solid bet is the chance of the Golden State Warriors winning the NBA championship. Despite losing a 3-1 lead to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals and losing a chance to repeat as champs in the process, they go into the 2016-17 campaign with the biggest prize of the summer.
When Kevin Durant joined the Warriors on the 4th of July they immediately became the favorites to win the NBA title with the Cavs right behind them. Yet despite being favorites and having the highest over/under projection at 66.5 wins, there’s another team that’s getting the bulk of the champions bets.
Not the Cavs, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics or even the Utah Jazz are getting the most betting love to win the NBA title. The New York Knicks are getting all of the championship betting money.
David Purdum of ESPN reported the following.
The Warriors, however, haven’t attracted the most overall bets to win the championship. At the SuperBook, more bets have been placed on the 80-1 longshot New York Knicks than any other team.
The Knicks are a team with an over/under at 38.5 which would slate them tied for 10th in the Eastern Conference based on those projections, tied with the Chicago Bulls. They kept their stars in Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis and put some interesting pieces around them. The Knicks added former NBA MVP Derrick Rose and his Bulls teammate Joakim Noah along with veterans Brandon Jennings and Courtney Lee with a couple of young players that have a chance to make the roster. They made some improvements to the team but title contenders? These gamblers are really living up to that name and hoping for things to break their way.
