48 hours into the start of 2015 NBA free agency and some teams are already hitting the panic button. The difference is, there are two panic buttons that are HUGE and fans are urging their team to hit it, right now.
Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are striking out in free agency, the Lakers more than the Knicks, and both teams are looking at all of their options. One option that’s on the table could be picking up the contract of a former All-Star.
The NBA Champion Golden State Warriors and David Lee have come to an agreement to get him out of Golden State for a couple of reasons. Lee’s contract is huge and the Warriors don’t want to pay into the luxury tax if they don’t have too. So Lee could be expendable to the right team with the salary cap space.
Why not send a former All-Star to a big market team looking to add talent in the worst way.
Following from Ramona Shelburne of ESPN on the Lakers.
If Lakers miss on their top three FA targets, they're more likely to pursue David Lee in a trade than revisit Boogie talks

From Howard Beck of Bleacher Report on the Knicks.
I do know that Knicks have had discussions about reacquiring Lee. But they had to explore all FA options first. It's a possibility.

Lee on both teams would be a dramatic upgrade to the current talent on the roster. Lee coming back to the Knicks would be an interesting full circle move for his career. He was traded away from the Knicks after signing his current huge contract and Lee ending his deal with New York would be an interesting storyline for the rebuilding Knicks.
The Lakers on the other hand, need anything at this point. They need a new influx of talent and bringing in Lee would definitely improve their current roster.
