The NEW New York Knicks will begin to hopefully not be trash in just just over a week and the main question for their team has been ‘Is Kristaps Porzingis ready?’. All the jokes have been said, Porzingis has been mentally strong all summer, he’s been attempting to get more physically strong and it worked for him in Summer League but not so much in preseason.
Regardless of the mediocre preseason, head coach Derek Fisher has confirmed for both the NY Post and the NY Daily News that Kristaps Porzingis will be the Knicks starting power forward on opening night.
Fisher started preseason with Porzingis as the starting power forward, and, as of Saturday, the coach hadn’t hedged — “we like him there,” he said.

This means that Carmelo Anthony will most likely start at small forward, but I don’t think that they’ll be compartmentalised into their positions.
It also means that the Knicks will start off games relatively big. With Melo, Kristaps Porzingis and Robin Lopez up top, they might have a tough going against teams that are adopting the very popular small ball lineup.
