This summer hasn’t been the most thrilling for Jamal Crawford. It’s been quite somber and trivial for the two-time sixth man of the year winner despite the excitement surrounding the Clippers all summer.
Crawford has expressed his interest in being a free agent on multiple occasions but there is no way the Los Angeles Clippers would do that without getting anything in return.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have previously expressed interest in Crawford and Jamal also has an interest in Cleveland but there is one former team of Crawford’s that could be interested in the guard.
The rebuilding New York Knicks are reportedly interested in the services of the talented veteran guard.
Following from Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.
The Knicks have expressed interest in acquiring Clippers guard Jamal Crawford, according to a source.
Coincidentally, the Cavs are also pursuing a deal for Crawford, the 34-year-old former Sixth Man of the Year. Miami is another team that is also interested in Crawford.
It is unclear what the Clippers are asking for in return.
Crawford’s longest stint with an NBA team was with the Knicks from 2005 until he was dealt to the Golden State Warriors for Al Harrington in a day that Knicks fans would remember as the day they also gave up Zach Randolph, for nothing.
As a member of the Knicks, Crawford averaged 17.6 points per game, playing 36.7 minutes per game. If he comes to New York now, there’s almost no way he’d come close to those numbers for multiple reasons. He’s getting older, he’ll most likely be coming off the bench and Carmelo Anthony will be option 1 for the Knicks, getting a majority of the shots.
How the Knicks would be able to pull this off, could be interesting. There’s not much they can offer that would interest the Clippers. Unless Los Angeles would want to accept a second round pick and some dead salary, don’t expect Jamal to wear blue and orange anytime soon.
The Cavs and Heat are a little more interesting. A deal for Crawford to the Cavs could involve their newly created trade exception, which is around $10.5 million.
For the Heat, the would have to hope the Clippers would take a package involving Mario Chalmers and/or Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen. The Heat would ‘love’ to unload Chalmers but do the Clippers want to pick up both of those veterans who are on a nose-diving decline in their careers?
