The first two seasons of Kristaps Porzingis young NBA career were cut short due to some injuries. While some could chalk it up as some minor ailments like an ankle tweak or shoulder soreness. It actually might not be that simple for the New York Knicks.
The team recently made it known that they are looking at all of their options, including the possibility of trading the young star Kristaps Porzingis. Knicks fans are up in arms, people in the media are crucifying Phil Jackson and James Dolan and everyone else is just laughing at the team. But beyond the wild headlines and statements made by Jackson, there might be a reason behind his madness.
On a recent episode of ESPN’s ‘TBA’ podcast, The Basketball Analogy crew talked about some the recent trade rumors involving teams like the Knicks. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst was asked by his co-worker Tom Haberstroh about what exactly is going on with Porzingis. Windhorst says the concerns for the Knicks are centered more around his injury history.
The following segment begins at the 54:00 minutes mark of the show.
Tob Haberstroh – Brian, Let’s change the subject real quick. Porzingis, what’s going on there?
Brian Windhorst – I mean, Tom this is right up your alley. The Knicks have some concerns about his long-term health.
TH – You have a 7’3″ guy who wanted to play all 82 games before the season and then broke down, halfway through the season. I don’t think that’s out there though, Brian. Like I don’t think that’s a talking point.
BW – Because the hot takes are more important these days than what’s actually going on.
TH – They’re worried about his back, his knees? Is that right?
BW – I heard they’re worried about his shoulders too.
Haberstroh, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon and TBA regular Big Wos went on to downplay the Knicks sudden concerns about a player’s health citing the Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose deals last year. But Windhorst said that is indeed what he’s being told.
BW – Listen, I’m just telling you that’s the word on the street. I am reporting that. The aggregators can go ahead and go with that.
(We will, thanks Windy)
