Mark Jackson once called Klay Thompson and Steph Curry the best shooting backcourt of all-time, but this happened two years ago. This was a very bold statement in 2013, but if you advance to 2015, a lot of people will agree with you.
Recently, Thompson spoke with a Sina reporter in China during a promotional tour for his new Anta sneaker, and said that he believes he and Curry, or the “Splash Bros” are the best shooting backcourt of all time. Thompson said,
“I agree. I think so.
Steph is one of the best to ever play. I think I’m right there by him. We both led the NBA in 3s, we were No. 1 and 2. I don’t know if that has ever happened on the same team.
So, I think we’re the best shooting backcourt, maybe of all-time.
We still got a lot to prove, and I still think we are just scratching the surface of what we can be.”
Thompson has a point. It is not very often that two players on the same team are the 2 leading three-point shooters. This is not crazy to think at all, but something that I personally cannot wrap my mind around is Thompson saying that they are only scratching the surface of what they can be. If this is only scratching the surface, imagine just how many threes the duo will be making in a few years.
One thing is for sure- Thompson and Curry are by far the best shooting backcourt in the NBA right now, but when we go into the all time discussion I am not as sure. You could give a pretty good argument stating that Steve Nash and Quentin Richardson were better but their sample size was only for one season. For now though, Thompson can only drain more threes to convince more and more people that he and Curry are in fact the best three-point shooting backcourt ever.
