As a player approaches the end of his career, it becomes more and more clear what that player will end up contributing for his team. For the Chicago Bulls, guard Kirk Hinrich doesn’t exactly have a defined role and he’s barely a serviceable player anymore.
The Bulls had a busy day, giving Jimmy Butler a max offer sheet earlier today and they also had Hinrich announce he will be returning. His future with the team beyond this upcoming season isn’t exactly clear but one thing is for sure, Hinrich will be getting paid next season to do something for the Bulls.
Following from a press release by the Chicago Bulls.
The Chicago Bulls announced today that guard Kirk Hinrich has exercised his player option for the 2015-16 season. In accordance with team policy, terms of the contract were not announced.
The 34-year old Hinrich has played in 833 regular-season games averaging 11.4 ppg, 5.0 apg, 3.0 rpg and 1.15 spg in 31.7 mpg. A 12-year veteran of the NBA, he owns career shooting averages of 41.2% from the field, 37.5% from the three-point line and 79.9% from the free throw line.
Hinrich’s role with the Bulls will not be anything important. He’s going to collect his money and quite possibly just sit on the bench and enjoy his glory years in the NBA. Being a part of this organization for so long, doing so much for Chicago over the years, he deserves this money from them. Now it will be interesting to see what happens next summer because Hinrich isn’t getting any younger and his days may be numbered.
