Nothing was held back when the Sacramento Kings traded away their best player this season. Endless mocking, confusion, and criticism cascaded upon the franchise via the media horde. The belief that they did not get enough for their fiery star was perhaps the most consensus opinion ever recorded in internet history.
A few months later, however, and the Kings are in no worse of shape than they have been for the past 5 years. Adding Buddy Hield in the trade proved prescient, despite the hilarity over some suspect front office quotes. As, Hield scored 15.1 points per game, grabbed 4.1 rebounds, shot 48% from the field and 42.8% from three point range in Sacramento. They also have two picks in the top 10 of the upcoming NBA draft. A draft many have called the deepest in years.
According to Chad Ford of ESPN, the Kings may use their two picks to trade up for a player they believe will be a star. De’Aaron Fox appears to be that player. A defensive minded prospect that may fit nicely next to their other young guard who likes to bomb away from deep. Although, keeping both picks may be the better decision for the Kings long term, don’t be surprised if they take a swing on a player they believe in.
