Things for the Sacramento Kings this year haven’t been fantastic. While their front office goes through some turmoil, their play on the court hasn’t been great either.
The Kings visited Mexico City on Thursday to take on the Boston Celtics and Boston would leave the game with a blowout victory over Sacramento. Coming into the game, the stories were all about point guards Rajon Rondo and Isaiah Thomas facing their old teams at a different venue but by time the game was over, there was concern about an injury.
Young rookie center Willie Cauley-Stein suffered an injury and he will miss a significant amount of time.
Following from an official Sacramento Kings press release.
Kings center Willie Cauley-Stein sustained an open dislocation of his right index finger late in the fourth quarter tonight against the Boston Celtics in Mexico City.
After evaluation by Kaiser Permanente doctors on site, it was determined that Cauley-Stein will miss approximately 4-6 weeks of action.
Without Willie Cauley-Stein, the Kings lineup may or may not look different. They’ve already used over 10 different starting lineups this season in only 20 games but they do have some guys who can replace Cauley-Stein’s minutes.
Kosta Koufos and Quincy Acy are immediately the guys who will be getting some increased minutes but more than likely, the Kings, if they are smart, will put DeMarcus Cousins at the starting center with Rudy Gay as the starting power forward to give teams some different looks.
