The Kings intended to release Bruno Caboclo upon trading for him, according to Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee. However, the team has decided not to release the forward and will keep him on the active roster.
Sacramento explored trade scenarios involving young players Malachi Richardson and Skal Labissiere for much of the past month, unable to find significant interest in either player. Toronto ultimately expressed interest on deadline day, intrigued with Richardson’s potential and talent at a young age.
The team later announced they waived Georgios Papagiannis in a separate move, another player they shopped on the market before the trade deadline passed Thursday.
Caboclo, 22, is on an expiring contract and will enter free agency on July 1. He could re-sign with the team if he impresses in the next two months, with the Kings in need of further wing depth and Caboclo still years away from his prime age.
Richardson, 22, adds wing depth to a Raptors team with sights set on title contention this postseason. He’s set to make the playoffs for the first time in his career this spring.
