The Sacramento Kings are expected to target Magic forward Mario Hezonja in free agency this summer, according to Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee.
The Kings need size on the perimeter, and a target is likely to be Mario Henzonja
…He’s the kind of player the Kings could land on a short-term deal and figures to be a high priority. He has fans in Sacramento’s front office, and is still only 23. He’s played better lately and is coming off a solid February where he averaged 15.5 points and connected on 40.4 percent of his 3-pointers.
Hezonja, 22, is in his third season with the Magic. The team explored trading him throughout the season but ultimately opted to keep him on the roster. They declined his fourth-year option at the end of October.
In 57 games with Orlando this season, Hezonja has averaged a career-high 9.1 points in 19.9 minutes per contest, to go along with 3.4 rebounds and 46 percent shooting from the floor. He’s also connecting on 35 percent of his threes, up five percent from last season.
The Kings chose to move on from veteran George Hill at the NBA’s trading deadline last month, and continue to rest veterans periodically as the season progresses. It’s clear the team has shifted to a rebuilding phase and will pursuit younger talent in future seasons.
