The Sacramento Kings are never without some sort of drama. This time, as with many other times, the source of the issue could be DeMarcus Cousins.
The big man has had an up-and-down career. He is quite clearly one of the best centers in the game but he has been unable to consistently get along with teammates, coaches, and management.
Well, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, that behavior may have started to run its course. Following transcribed by RealGM:
“I’ve had a couple of guys from other teams tell me they’re starting to hear the Kings are starting to get sick of Cousins,” said Lowe. “No one knows who’s making the decisions from the ownership level, not who’s making the decisions, but there’s just so many voices among ownership. They have a million minority owners. Vlade (Divac) and Ken Catanella; there’s just a lot of voices and no one knows who quite to listen to.”
This is definitely shocking news. For years, there have been discussions of whether the Kings would trade their franchise cornerstone and nothing has emanated from it.
What’s important to note here is that Lowe’s sources are from other teams. That means that they are not as connected to the DeMarcus Cousins situation as one would believe. It could also be an attempt to cause more dysfunction within the Kings to force their hands at trading Cousins.
Regardless, one can see where the Kings would be frustrated by Cousins. But to imply that they don’t want him around anymore seems a bit much to muster at the moment.
