DeMarcus Cousins recently said that he expects to retire in Sacramento and have his jersey hang in the rafters of the Golden 1 Center. The Kings will make Cousins’ choice easier, as they reportedly plan to offer him a maximum contract eclipsing $200 million over the span of five years, reports ESPN’s Marc Stein:
But sources also say that the Kings, at season’s end, want to pitch Cousins on a long-term partnership in the summertime, knowing he’s going to be eligible in July for a Designated Player Extension that ?could make him one of a handful of $200 million players league wide.
The latest signals suggest it would take a monster offer to get the Kings to tweak those plans.
Not a whole lot of players can command a $200 million contract, but Cousins is definitely one of them. The big man is averaging a career-high 28.5 points this season to go with 10 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He’s also improved on the three-point shot that he added to his arsenal last season; Cousins is shooting 37.3 percent from beyond the arc on 4.8 three-point attempts per game.
The star center (who says he’d be the best big man in the NBA even if he played in sandals) is having the best season of his career. He’s scary good, especially now that he’s added a deadly three-point shot.
