The Sacramento Kings are attempting to close out the season on the best note possible. In a season where DeMarcus Cousins finally became an All-Star and had three head coaches in less than a year. It seems that (once again) it’s full steam ahead in growing the team around the tank that is DMC.
Speaking of DMC. Cousins has had a long season. All that banging down in the paint can weigh down on a brother. Which is why, according to ESPN.com. The Kings are considering shutting down Cousins for the remainder of the season.
Kings coach George Karl said Monday that he spoke with Cousins about how they would approach the final weeks of the season. Cousins has been dealing with a calf strain, sore foot and a thigh bruise among other ailments for several weeks.
“We talked when he commented after one game that his body was beat up,” Karl said before the Kings faced the Grizzlies. “I said, ‘Instead of thinking about shutting it down, let’s try to find some days that you can get your body rested.’ We might schedule a piece of our games and (rest Cousins) again.“
Their number 2 in Rudy Gay is also banged up. Suffering a concussion in their recent matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Now if I may talk long term for the minute. I love DeMarcus Cousins, he is a beast. But the Kings better give him something to work with. Because this is wasting talent. Same with Anthony Davis. Two beast big men. No Playoff basketball. That’s just not right.
