R&B newcomer Khalid earns first No. 1 album as his third release Free Spirit debuts at No. 1 on Billboards 200 chart.
Released April 5, Free Spirit takes Khalid’s career to the next level. Taking the No. 1 spot, Khalid holds the fourth largest week of 2019 for an album thus far. Billboard reports, Khalid earned 202,000 equivalent album units in the week ending April 11 with 85,000 in traditional album sales.
Billboard continues to note, Khalid’s Free Spirit comes as the first R&b album to reach No. 1 since The Weeknd’s EP My Dear Melancholy released April 2018.
Previously, Khalid peaked on Billboard’s 200 chart at No. 4 with the 2017 debut album American Teen and reached No. 8 with 2018’s Suncity. Khalid sits atop the charts with Billie Ellish’s When We Fall Asleep at No. 2 and the late Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap coming in at No. 3.
Khalid takes his now No. 1 album Free Spirit on a North American arena tour, kicking off June 2019.
