There have been doubts about Kevin Love’s future with the Cleveland Cavaliers after he had a subpar(by his standards) season this year. His points per game average dropped almost 10 points from last season, and he averaged under 10 rebounds per game for the first time since his rookie season in 2008-09. However, that should not be too shocking, as Love went from being the best player on his team(by a large margin) to sharing the ball with Kyrie Irving and LeBron James.
It was reported recently that Kevin Love planned to “look around” this offseason, at teams like the Celtics, Lakers, and Rockets.
Love has refuted these rumors, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
From McMenamin’s Twitter Page:
Kevin Love on next season: “I truly expect to be suiting up for Game 1.” For the Cavs? Love: “Yes, sir.”
It would certainly make sense for Kevin Love to stick around. After all, he’s in an ideal situation. If he were to leave Cleveland, Love would be walking away from a team featuring LeBron James and Kyrie Irving that made the finals despite Love getting injured in the first round.
The Cavaliers have played very well despite Love’s injury, reaching the NBA finals. Though Love was the third wheel to Irving and James this year, he is an impactful player who brings rebounding and perimeter shooting. Cavs’ fans should be elated to hear this news, because not only did Love predict that he would remain in Cleveland, he predicted that he would be back for the first game of the season. This likely means that his injury is progressing well and there haven’t been any setbacks, which is great news.
