Kevin Love Has No Plans To Opt Out Of His Contract After This Season
The Minnesota Timberwolves traded their All-Star forward Kevin Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a blockbuster deal that landed them the no. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins. Love was carrying a Minnesota team that wasn’t going anywhere fast, and his departure via free agency this summer was imminent had the Timberwolves not elected to trade him beforehand.
It hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows in “The Land” for Love since his arrival. These Cavaliers are still experiencing major adjustment and chemistry issues as Love blends his elite play with that of Kyrie Irving and LeBron James. Contrary to rumoring speculation, and consistent with his thought process on the matter, Love has no plans of opting out of his contract and exploring free agency this summer, via Chris Haynes of Northeast Ohio Media Group:
“I think that we will figure it out here, so I don’t plan on opting out or any of that,” Love told NEOMG. “I plan on being here. As far as leaving my options open, I mean sure, it’s always there. At the end of the day, it’s always good to have something but no, I plan on being here.”
“I’ve said all along that I plan on being a Cavalier long-term,” Love said without hesitation. “As we continue to evolve, my role will continue to evolve. It’s still a process where I’m figuring it out.”
It was recently reported that Love wouldn’t be signing a long term deal after this season.
If Love picks up his player option of $16.7 million for the 2015-16 season he’ll stay with the Cavaliers at least until summer of 2016. He’ll then be eligible to sign a new contract near the anticipated new TV deal for the 2016-17 season. For now, Love is leading us to believe that he’s fully committed to making this situation work in Cleveland, with Kyrie Irving, and with LeBron James.
